Building a Mission, Literally

My son had to build a Mission this year in his 4th grade class. His Mission was Santa Clara. I have to admit he picked a really boring mission.

It burnt down they re-built. It flooded they re-built. It burnt down they re-built. It was destroyed in an earthquake, they re-built. Not much more going on besides it being destroyed and re-built.

The interesting thing is the Mission became Santa Clara University and since we live about 30 minutes away from it, he is able to actually go to the site of the Mission. I think that's pretty cool!

So here is his Mission. His Dad and him built it (paper Mached) and painted it. Do you like the little farm animals I picked out? There were a lot of farm animals on the Mission as well.

Enjoy!

He did a great job!
We have Mission San Luis, right down the road from me, it's a very pretty area with a park.

Holy smokes, now that is a paper mache work of art. I think Picasso would be impressed! He didn't do 3D art!

Very cool!! My son got jipped on that assignment last year. His teacher thought it was not important. I disagree. Look how cool your son's mission turned out!! I bet he will remember making this for a long time!! It really looks great!! Good Job!!

That is awsome. When I was young this wold have been one of my favorite projects. The animals were the perfect touch.

Now, are you talking about Santa Clara California? The maybe soon to be home of the San Francisco 49ers? If so, my husband will be there very often during the 2011 football season.
