Handle With Care

I finally got my hands on a copy of the book, Handle With Care, by Jodi Picoult. The same author of the book, My Sisters Keeper. I'd been to frugal to actually spend $16 on the book ($27 hard cover), and my Sister just so happened to have it when I mentioned I wanted to read it last Friday. So she let me borrow it.

I'm liking the book so far. I really, really LOVED My Sisters Keeper, however HATED the movie.

NO SPOILERS! OKAY TO READ!

Handle With Care, is written in the exact same format as my Sister's keeper. I wonder if that is how all her books are written? Each chapter is a different character, telling their side of what is happening and what they are thinking and saying at that given time in the story.

Both books also follow this exact storyline:

A family with a sick, dying or past away child
A sibling who is destructive and or self destructive
A husband and wife torn apart by different beliefs
A lawsuit
A lawyer with their own back story that some how relates to the family

My Sisters Keeper threw a WICKED curve ball at the end, so I am curious to find out if this book will have a similar jaw dropping ending. I'm 200 pages into the 477 page book and I've started it last night. Yeah it's addicting like that! I just want to know, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!

I'm not going to provide you with any spoilers or tell you even what the book is about, besides what you read above and that isn't telling you much. I want you to read these books as they are really great books!

Next on my reading list. LOVELY BONES! The made it into a movie, which will hit theaters soon. It looks really good.

I really need to read something for fun again... I should get this one.

If you like My Sister's Keeper, you should like most of her books which do follow the same format and frequently have surprise endings. Of course I was very disappointed with the ending of My Sister's keeper. I'm a happy ending type of girl.

My mom mom just gave me My Sisters Keeper..I can't wait to read it and refuse to see the movie until I have.

I read Lovely Bones years ago but I should totally read it again before I see the new movie.

Sounds like you have one well read sister. BTW I have several other Judi Picoult books and she does maintain the format of characters by chapter and lawsuits. That is her background. The Tenth Circle was a great book.

For those of you who liked "Lovely Bones", you should read Alice Sebold's other book about her personal experience with rape called "Lucky". Just one warning the first few chapters are very graphic and kind of hard on the emotions.

Cheers
-Your well read Sister...

All her books are written the same way. I haven't read this one yet because I am still working on one called Mercy written by her.

Loved lovely bones and my sisters keeper. I didn't see the movie for my sisters keeper but I heard it wasn't that great. I've been looking for a good read lately, so I'll have to pick this one up, thanks for the tip!

Since I loved My Sister's Keeper as much as you did (but I didn't see the movie), I am going to take your advice on this one! Oh my gosh, after I read that, it stuck with me for weeks!

Good luck with Lovely Bones. I read a few chapters, and really never got into it, so I just stopped. It just wasn't my cup of tea. I did like My Sister's Keeper though [haven't seen the movie], so let us know if this one is good, too, and I'll keep an eye out for it.

If you go to the blog and look for Interview with a Girlfriend you'll see the questions and just answer em and send em to me and your picture and we'll feature you! We haven't gotten one in forever because nobody has sent us one in forever!! : )

I can never find her books at the used book store and I am really eager to get into one! Thanks for the review. I always try to read every book of an author that writes well. And I try to read the book that came before the movie before I see the movie!

I really want to read this. I don't know if you remember my email about it, but that person in my life made the wrong decision in my mind. I have to wait a bit I think.

I love Jodi Picoult and have wanted to read both these books too. I hope you are still enjoying Handle with Care. I've heard it's great!

I'm glad you like it.. I bought it like right after it came out in paperback but have been held up with so many other things to read it. I love My sister's keeper (I think the movie was ok) but some of her other books just can't keep me going. So glad you like it, It makes me excited to start reading!

possibly something similar that they use? Any help would be greatly appreciated. And please tell me if you are a native speaker or not.

I'm hoping it was just a fluke though, because I've read about six or seven of her other books and enjoyed them all.

How do you think Willow really feels in the book "Handle with Care" by Jodi Picoult??

My step-daughter is visiting her mother and grandmother in Kentucky over the summer. We live in Texas. Last night my husband and I received a call from my daughter's mother stating that she broke her wrist playing on a swing set and they were at the hospital.

I want to read another book of Jodi Picoult. My local bookstore has the books Second Glance and Handle With Care by her and I'm going to get them both but which one should I read first? What would you suggest?
